INTENT

We believe technology transforms the lives of everyone. Through the teaching of Computing we equip our children to participate and flourish in our rapidly changing world.

Computing has intrinsic links with mathematics, science and design and technology, and enables pupils to make connections and apply understanding across all areas of learning. We aim for our pupils to be competent in using a wide range of technology and software as well as ensuring they have a secure understanding of Online Safety and their roles with regard to this.

IMPLEMENTATION

Computing is taught throughout KS1 and KS2 as a discrete subject and the skills developed are used and applied across the broader curriculum.

All elements of the National Curriculum are covered through a rolling curriculum plan using the Purple Mash computing scheme with

skills being developed progressively and sequentially. The skills taught follow the 4 strands of digital literacy, computer science, information technology and online safety.

Online safety is a focus within the PSHE curriculum ensuring children fully understand their own roles within this area of the technological world. 

IMPACT

Children’s knowledge and skills develop progressively as they move through the school and are assessed and reported to parents in the end of year report. It is important that our curriculum not only to enables children to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum, but prepares them to become safe and competent consumers and programmers of the technology they encounter.  Children become competent in using core software programs such as word processing and data representation and are ready for the computing curriculum at Key Stage 3. Furthermore, we aim to equip children with skills and values that can be applied more universally that will help prepare them for life as an adult in the wider world.
