February Newsletter

Dear families,

February Newsletter

We have reached the half term mark and I know the children are ready for a bit of a break! They have worked hard this half term enjoying their topics and learning, expanding their thoughts and experiences and we look forward to more challenges and exciting learning next term.

Straight after half term we have World Book Day to look forward (Thursday 2nd March) where we will be celebrating poetry and rhyming and rhythm within words. To help them think about the poem they will be learning (in KS2) over half term, I shared two in assembly this morning linked to this half term’s character strength: honesty.

I shared “Forgiven” by AA Milne, all about Nanny letting out a beetle from a match box by mistake; and “Chocolate Cake” by Michael Rosen, all about a boy who sneaks down in the middle of the night and eats an entire chocolate cake! Honesty was clear in both.

We celebrated today the following children who have demonstrated honesty consistently throughout this half term (and longer). All these children can wear their blue badges with pride for the rest of the time they are in school. Well done to all of you!

Reception: Aarav Laxhman

Year 1: Felicity Hardy

Year 2: Freddie Humphrey

Year 3: Thomas Smith

Year 4: Lottie Mackay

Year 5: Harry Stuart

Year 6: Arjan Laxhman

So, to end my half term missive, and in the spirit of World Book Day and our poetry theme, I thought I’d write you all a short and quickly composed poem. My apologies – poet laureate I am not!

Half term is here,

I hear that cheer!

What will you do, or where will you go?

Maybe a holiday, a trip or a show?

The week is yours to do as you choose,

Whether that involves ski boots, wellies or shoes!

Alarms not set, no uniform to find,

The days stretch ahead – a joy of some kind.

Wherever you go, whatever you see,

I wish you all a half term of glee!

I am quite sure the children will come up with better poems than me and I hope they enjoy learning a poem to perform to their class.

We look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 27th February.

Wishing you all a safe and happy Half Term break.

Mrs Silk
