From the Head

We want all our children to leave Snitterfield as curious, inspired young people with a sense of their own self-worth, able to contribute positively to society.
Dear Families,
September 2022
We have had a great start to the new academic year. The children have all settled in to their new year groups (as have the teachers!) and they all seem eager to discuss their learning and share their successes. I always enjoy seeing the children’s work and have had the pleasure of many visitors to my office in these first few weeks. I have seen some amazing efforts across all subjects and had some good conversations with the children about their successes; it has been very pleasing to see how reflective the children are and how they are able to identify next steps and aspects for them to work on.
As a school we have been living out the British Value of Democracy and have held hustings and ballots to vote in our new representatives for various roles across school.
Congratulations to our new house captains:
• Arden: Ardal & Grace
• Halls Croft: Darnell & Willow
• Hathaway: Evie & Chloe
• Shakespeare: Ewan & Mia
Congratulations to our new School Council representatives:
• Year 1: Eira
• Year 2: Elizabeth
• Year 3: Freddie
• Year 4: Isla
• Year 5: Henry
• Year 6: Mia
Year 6 have embraced their roles as buddies for the Reception children. In the first few days the buddies welcomed the new children in to the classroom each morning and helped them settle. They then met up again at lunchtime to help the new children understand the routines of the lunch hall. It is not long until, having done such a great job that Y6 are no longer needed in the hall. The children love to meet up on the field and playground after they have eaten, and before the afternoon lessons begin. Other roles have also been shared out amongst the Year 6 children and I am sure you will be hearing from our news reporters regularly!
We are looking to recruit some of the older children as “play leaders”. The idea being that the children lead games that are accessible to those who wish to play and also keep a look out for children who seem to find lunch and breaktimes hard. When the weather is fine (and the ground dry), we can all enjoy the field and the space that provides. The field enables 2 different football games to go ahead while other children (not quite so obsessed by the beautiful game) still have space to run and play. Come wetter weather, the field is no longer used and our playground is too small to accommodate football and the rest of the school. To this end we are looking to train up some of the older pupils as “Play leaders”. Training will be provided in school and support from staff on duty will be available. If your child thinks it is something they are interested in then they can either speak to myself or Mr Young or fill out an application form from the news notice board in school. I look forward to seeing who applies.
Finally, Wednesday will be our harvest festival and I do hope many of you will be able to join us at church, St. James, at 9.30 am to celebrate.
