Dear Families,
According to the calendar, we have officially passed Midsummer now but I can assure you there are plenty of dreams and fairy mischief occurring in school as Class 4 continue to rehearse their version of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream! I am looking forward to their performance in a couple of weeks’ time, as I am sure they are too.
This time of year is strange in school as we look backwards and start to wrap up the current year and all its business whilst at the same time we look forward to the
new year and what September will bring. I feel a little like the Push me Pull you from Doctor Dolittle!
We have been busy writing end of year reports, undertaking assessments in class and discussing the curriculum for the next year. Alongside this, we have been welcoming new Reception parents and children into school for meetings and “stay and play” sessions and finalising our staffing and classes across school.
Today, Year 6, Mr Young and myself left for Manor Adventure. We are joining the other schools from the federation for a weekend of adventure and experiences (which I am sure will be fully enjoyable!) and we will share some pictures in the end of term newsletter. Classes 1,2 and 3 have some exciting trips or visitors coming up or in over the next couple of weeks so we will add photos of those experiences too (and sports’ day) – be prepared July’s newsletter could be full of photos!
We are looking forward to welcoming families into school too with sports’ afternoon on Monday 11th July, and the open afternoon on Thursday 14th July - a time to share what the children have been learning over the course of the year.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank FOSS (and all of you who have generously donated to FOSS over the year(s)) for the contributions that have been made to each class this year. The teachers have been able to decide how to spend this money for the benefit of the children. The money has contributed to:
- Class trips for Class 1 & 2 (All things Wild)
- Providing “experts” to come in and explore the children’s learning (Dance in Class 1&2 and an Anglo Saxon expert in Class 3)
- Class 1 have purchased some exciting equipment for September to enable the children to build their own assault courses
- In Class 4 some of the fund has been used to develop and create special, individual learning resources for each child such as their own dictionary ready for September
Thank you for your continued support of school and the children and their learning journey.
Please do join us when you can for the different events over the up-coming weeks, we look forward to welcoming you into school.

Volunteers wanted to hear children read
Can you regularly spare up to an hour a week from September?
Did you know that in 2019, 1 in 4 children left primary schools across England not being able to read at the expected standard?
We know that reading unlocks opportunities and life experiences as it is the key to ongoing education.
Our vision states: “We want all our children to leave Snitterfield as curious, inspired young people who have a sense of their own self-worth and are able to contribute positively to society.”
If the key to children achieving is the ability to read fluently and confidently, understanding what they have read and what it means to them then we need to help them practise and master this at every opportunity. Can you help us?
We would like to develop a group of volunteers who hear children read across the school – from Reception to Year 6 and all the years in between. The commitment would be at least half an hour a week between 9.00 and 9.30. No experience is necessary as guidance and more information will be given including top tips on how to make the time as successful as possible.
If you are interested in supporting our children, please contact the office to complete a DBS check ahead of starting in September. Once our safeguarding checks are complete, you will receive a volunteer’s pack which includes our volunteer’s policy and some top tips on hearing children read.
The village community obtained a grant to engage a local artist to work with all pupils in school to produce a ceramic tile with a jubilee theme. These have now been installed on the exterior of the village hall as a lasting celebration of the 2022 Platinum Jubilee. Please take a look and see if you can identify your child's tile !
As you may be aware, we have previously supported Stratford Food Bank, as an initiative led by our School Council. We understand that there is more demand for their services in the current financial climate and they would appreciate donations of long shelf-life food to help local families. We are happy to pass on any donations you could bring into school.
"Dear parents,
The Food Bank need more food because the prices have gone up and since Christmas no-one is giving food. Please can you give us long life food to the school.
Yours sincerely
School Council"
