Dear Families,
I have thoroughly enjoyed my first two weeks as Head of School here at Snitterfield. I have been getting to know the pupils, the staff, some parents and volunteers and the school itself. In the first week I found all the different entry points so confusing I hardly met any parents! I have been trying to rectify this but know it will take some time to meet you all – please say hello and introduce yourselves if you see me. The children were asked to say hello and introduce themselves to me in school when they saw me and I feel that I have probably learnt around a third of their names – a work in progress! I have felt very welcomed into the school community and am proud to be part of such an inclusive and welcoming school.
The summer term is always a busy one and I am pleased to see that the children are engaged in their learning and enjoying the themes and books they are studying. The range is fantastic from writing love letters to Bottom in Class 2 (Midsummer Night’s Dream) to creating mythical monsters for Odysseus to encounter in Class 4.
In various conversations with volunteers and the Chair of FOSS, I know there are things we are excited to work together on – watch this space!
Finally, I feel that in these last two weeks we have experienced the weather of all four seasons and in typical form the forecast isn’t terribly good for a bank holiday weekend. I hope that you still manage to get outside and enjoy some fresh air and the company of friends and family as eased restrictions permit.
With best wishes,
Rowena Silk
Hello from The Office!
Phew! It's been a busy couple of weeks back in school - lots of plans being formulated for the future and a new boss too!
As ever first order of business is a thank you to you all for your continued support and cooperation with our COVID regulations and procedures - we're almost at the finish! Keep up the great work!
Our second ever virtual Parents Evenings are coming up next week. You should all have received details of when your appointment(s) is (are). If you haven't had an email from me, please give me a ring on Tuesday morning and we'll sort it out. Your child's class teacher will email invites to the Teams meetings to your child's email address shortly (they may even have done so already). If you haven't logged into your child's welearn account for a while, it might be worth having a go over the weekend... if you have any issues drop me a line and I'll try and help you out on Tuesday morning! We are getting more and more adept with using the technology, but please bear with us in the event of any technical hiccups on the night!
Our kitchen team are providing a special menu on Friday June 18th in celebration of the England v Scotland Euros clash at Wembley Stadium (that's football for the uninitiated!) - sadly battered haggis and deep-fried Mars Bars are not on the menu - details are below...
Finally, just in case you need to be reminded - Monday 3rd May is a Bank Holiday so the school will be closed!
Enjoy the long weekend!

Royal Mail are running a children’s stamp design competition (only the fourth one they’ve ever run) to celebrate the heroes of the COVID pandemic. There are some good prizes on offer- both for school and the winning artists and so we are encouraging everyone to take part!
We would like every child in school to get creative, use their imagination and artistic flair to design a stamp for this competition. This can be done at home and each child will bring home an official entry form from school on Friday 30th April.
Once the design is complete, the children should bring them back into school and we will send them all off together. To ensure we meet the closing date, please ensure completed entries are back in school at the latest by MONDAY 24th MAY. All entries will be posted that afternoon and late artwork will not be entered into the competition.
Please read this parent letter from Royal Mail https://www.stampcompetition.ichild.co.uk/pdf/en_Heroes_Letter_For_Parents.pdf which highlights the use of data in relation to this competition; please contact school if you do not wish your child to take part.
The Prime Minister is supporting this competition and can been seen, should you wish to find out more, in this promotional video https://youtu.be/00jF401G374 which explains more about the competition.
We hope the children will enjoy designing and drawing their stamps to show a COVID hero and hopefully one of our pupils’ designs will be chosen.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
The Children's Commissioner for England has initiated a survey to find out how children are. She is seeking to understand their thoughts, experiences, hopes and dreams. By following this link, your child can have their say and take part. The survey is split into different age groups so that the language will be appropriate and accessible for each age range. The closing date is the 19th May so please take part before then if you can.

Class One are always busy! This month they have been looking at 'People Who Help Us', as well as continuing their excellent workwith numbers and phonics. Here are some photos of Forest School Fun...
Class Two have been getting Shakespearean this month! (Beleated birthday greetings for last week, Will!) The children have been studying 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' and produced some amazing artwork and even imagined themselves as characters from the play to write 'Love Letters'!
In science, with Mrs Brettell, the children conducted experiments to learn about the efffects of Greenhous Gases.
Class Three have been very busy putting their science and DT skills in to practice. They have designed and built their own working lamps! Take a look at the photos below and be "enlightened"...
Class Four have been getting mythical this month and are sailing the seas of Ancient Greece with Odysseus and his crew as they study 'The Odyssey'.
They have also been looking at levers in science and constructed their own models to illustrate how the human arm works.
"I don't like cricket, oh no! I love it!" And your children will too... Snitterfield Cricket Club are once again running the excellent All-Stars and Dynamos cricket sessions at the sports club on Friday evenings. See details below...
Snitterfield Cricket Club are pleased to announce that we will be running All Stars cricket again this year, on Fridays 6pm starting 7 May. And in addition we are also (subject to sufficient numbers) running the new Dynamos course aimed at 8-11 year olds.
