Dear Parents & Carers,
It's hard to believe another month has gone by and we're now only three weeks away from the end of term. Thank you all for your continued support of our COVID safety measures and of our new ways of working. This month we held our first ever virtual Parent Teacher appointments via Microsoft Teams. I would like to thank all of you who persevered with the technology and particularly the staff who went the extra mile to make the system work! Feedback from the teachers has been generally positive and I hope your experience was a good one. If you have any feedback on the appointments please email Mr Berry in the office.
I mentioned earlier in the week about our build up to Christmas. Although this year has to be different we are determined to make the last few weeks of term as festive as possible. Every Friday in December will be 'Festive Friday' and I hope to see lots of Christmas Jumpers, Reindeer Antlers and Elf Hats on display! If your children want to send Christmas cards to their friends, please have them deliver them to their teacher who will store them until the last day of term when they will be distributed to take home. Mr Berry has details of Christmas Lunch and our Pantomime below.
Here's to a wonderful December.
Hello from The Office - and Happy Lancashire Day!
Lots of 'Thank Yous' this month!
Earlier this month we had our non-uniform day in support of BBC Children in Need. Despite some rather unfair criticism of my (awesome) choice of shirt, it was lots of fun and more importantly, thanks to your generosity, we raised an amazing £154!!!! THANK YOU!
We also supported the British Legion's Poppy Appeal. I haven't had the final count back yet, but THANK YOU again for your generosity!
Don't forget the Christmas Shoe Box Appeal (details HERE) - deadline for delivering boxes to the office for collection is Wednesday 9th December 2020. THANK YOU in advance for your genrosity and support!
And now to Christmas...
Mrs Plaskitt has already given you details of some of festive activties - including Festive Fridays and Christmas Cards and the annual Christmas Lunch.
Traditionally, we have served Christmas Lunch in the school hall as whole school event. Sadly, that won't be the case this year. Lunch will be served on Tuesday 15th December 2020 in 'bubbles', but we hope it will still be just as much fun! All children are invited to have the meal on offer (see menu below). If your child doesn't normally have a hot lunch but would like to partake of the feast please email me by Tuesday 1st December (so the kitchen get have an idea of numbers) - but if your child would rather have their packed lunch - that's OK, they will still be eating with the others.
Another highlight of the run up to Christmas is our Pantomime and again, we will be holding this, but in a slightly different way. In order to maintain COVID safety, this years panto will be streamed to bubbles on Wednesday 16th December. This year's show is Cinderella ('Oh no it isn't!') performed by the West Midlands Childrens Theatre
Class One took a break from working extremely hard and planted a very special tree on Armistice Day. It was grown from an acorn, from an Oak tree planted in a memorial woodland in Northern France at the end of the First World War. Thanks to Hilary who grew the sapling and help us plant it and to our neighbour Mr Thorndale who brought the acorn back from France.
As a break from our work on The Romans, Class 3 had a fabulous morning in Forest School finding leaves and playing leaf bingo..... Wow! We didn't realise how many different types of leaves there are! After break, we were challenged to design our own crazy golf course with forest materials. We were very creative and inventive!
It was so lovely to see the children in the outdoor classroom and engaging in non-academic subjects.
A fun morning was had by all.
Class 4 had their Forest School last week - it was pretty muddy, but a good time was had by all - Leaf Bingo and a new SPS Golf Course!
Report by Chief Reporter Ossie Gale:
We were finding leaves to play bingo with. We would collect the different types of leaves and would cross some of them out but we had to get a Bingo to win. Then we went to a spot that we could make a golf course and we had to use only natural resources. At the end we had to get a golf club and a ball, and they tested it out to see if it worked.
Laptops4Learners are a Stratford based group who are reconditioning old, unwanted laptops and donating them to schools to help families who might find access to remote learning and online resouces difficult. They wipe the original operationg system and memory, install a new operating system and software to make them great for access online platforms like Teams. They are provided free of charge.
Laptops4Learners have helped a number of families in our community already, so it would be great if we could help them by donating any old laptops/chromebooks/netbooks, etc. Have a dig around in the loft, the study or the cupboard under the stairs - if you have any old laptops (preferably with power chord) you don't need any more, please bring them to the school office (by the end of term) and we will pass them on to Laptops4Learners for refurbishment.
If you'd like to know more about the work they do please visit https://www.laptops4learners.co.uk/
