FROM THE EXECUTIVE HEADS OFFICE
Dear Parents & Carers,
Happy Half Term!
We've had an unusually long half term this time and packed so much in already which you can read about in this newsletter!
There's been a real buzz around school over the last few weeks and I've been especially proud when showing prospective parents around the school - visitors have remarked on how calm and purposeful the classrooms are and how engaged the children are in their learning. Some have also remarked on how challenging some of the work looks to them - seeming very different from when they were at school - so its been a pleasure to be able to point out that there are children thriving on that level of challenge, whilst also seeing individuals or small groups being supported by our hard-working and committed Teaching Assistants across the school.
Next half term is looking characteristically busy too - all classes have school trips booked and there'll be the usual build up to the Christmas festivities. Straight after half term we have our Autumn parents meetings and I know that staff are looking forward to sharing your children's achievements and progress with you. This time last year we used the booking system on the app for the first time, and I would like to thank you for embracing this new feature as well as the introduction of Parent Pay. These functions really are streamlining office procedures AND reducing our paper consumption and copying costs which is something we're working on across the school.
Over half term we are embarking on our latest capital funded project which is to overhaul our IT provision. The Governors agreed to spend a large portion of our capital funding to replace our outdated, out of warranty and 'end of life' devices. In addition, we are refurbishing the area outside of Class 4 where the old desktop machines have been situated. These will be dismantled over half term and the space refreshed and turned into a break out space for small group work for Class 4. Our set of new laptops are due to be installed at the end of November and I know that the children are really looking forward to a faster logon and better devices.
Whatever you are doing next week I wish everyone a restful and happy half term break - enjoy the lovely Autumn days and Halloween!

School Council met on Thursday to discuss their first fundraising initiative of the year: Children in Need.
They decided that the non-school uniform day will, this year, be a pyjama day so the children can all come to school in their PJ's or onsie's or dressing gowns etc. for a day of fun and fundraising!
We have decided to hold it on Thursday the 14th of November rather than the Friday so that our Reception class can take part, and not have to miss out due to Forest School, and that Class 3 and 4 children don't have to worry about changing into PE kits in the afternoon- they can stay in comfy gear all day.
The council also agreed that we would link in to the children in need healthy theme and put a healthy twist on a classic bake sale by asking parents to prepare some healthy snacks that can be sold during break and after school on the Thursday. We'll send out some suggestions for healthy snacks after half term, so keep your eyes peeled. But if you're eager to get started, take a look at the children in need website for some recipe ideas (from Joe Wicks) HERE.
We are also hoping to link into Joe Wick's national BIG MORNING MOVE on Friday morning at 09:00AM and follow his work out to get the children ready for the day of learning ahead.
NEW School Fundraiser Totaliser!!
Back in June we presented our short-term fundraising goals (which dove tail into the Schools Development Plans) to FOSS committee members and parents.
We outlined the top priority school and resource projects for 2019/20 that are in most need of an injection of funds that would benefit our children. HERE's the plan as a reminder of our goals and priorities.
To further engage the children and parents in our mission, we have created a Shool Fundraising Goals Totaliser (with the help of Mrs Varley in Class 1s sewing prowess) to visually communicate and track our fundraising efforts which is now on the wall opposite the school office!
I met with Carol Ann, FOSS Chair, last week to discuss schools 2019/20 priorities and the FOSS team are happy and keen to start linking their events to specific goals so we can all see where funds have come from and are going to!
This year, FOSS will help us raise funds, in no particular order, towards the below items - and they'll be on the 'Totaliser' after half term as goals for us all to see.
1. LEARNING RESOURCES, specifially:
Class 1: Outdoor play equipment & role play scene boards
Class 2: Outdoor play equipment: construction, sand and dinosaur resources
Class 3: Maths resources
Class 4: Visualiser
School: Art and Design and Science resources
2. FOREST SCHOOL SHELTER
Similar or as per picture.
3. CLASS ROOM IPDAS
4. SCHOOL TRIPS
For a couple of the higher priced items, Forest School Shelter and Class iPads, we are also applying for grants to part-fund and bolster the funds raised from FOSS events, which leads me on to another exciting project....
The Small Grants Project Team
Also in June we launched a 'Small Grants Project Team' and a few parents signed up to help us evaluate the grants out there - thank you. Their task is to a) investigate both School and or FOSS's eligibilty for grants - some require that school apply, some a charity i.e FOSS, and some are open to both b) determine what evidence we need to provide and c) pen the application using the evidence and schools crib sheet of specific pupil stats where needed.
The mid to longer term school goals-projects that we are looking to obtain grants for are as follows:
LIBRARY RESOURCES: BOOKS & LIBRARY FURNITURE
FOREST SCHOOL: SHELTER, INSTALLATION & DELIVERY
POND AREA: NEW COMPOSITE DECKING
ICT: CLASS IPADS
PLAYGROUND: NEW LARGE ITEM, REMOVAL OF OLD & RE-SURFACING
CLASS 1 OUTDOOR AREA: RE-SURFACING & EXTENDING CANOPY
Over this next week I will let the 'Small Grants Team' members know their grant 'areas' to investigate and we'll provide an update to everyone before Christmas.
And, if you're reading this thinking, I could help look into some grants whilst watching TV with a glass of vino in hand, drop me a line and I'll add you to the list: [email protected]
Year 1: Emma McKay
Year 2: Rachel Richards
Year 3: Carol Ann Horne
Year 4: Jo Holt
Year 5: Fiona O'Brien
Year 6: Helen Berry
Our welcome evening went ahead on the 17th October, it was great to see faces old and new come along. Lots of great ideas were shared and it was all topped off by the complimentary drinks provided by the Snitterfield Arms! We plan to have another one in the new year!!!
As well as all this we have been planning for upcoming events! The first is our amazing Wreath Making evening which is being held on Friday 22nd November in school. You can purchase tickets online BY CLICKING HERE.
The next event after Wreath Making is our annual Xmas Fayre which we run alongside St James Church. However, this year we will be hosting the fayre in school instead of in Church. The Xmas Fayre is a lovely festive afternoon that really brings the whole community together and we are hoping this year will be even more festive with our new outdoor xmas market! As with lots of events they only work if we get volunteers to help, so watch this space, we will be asking for help soon!
On top of this, FOSS and School are working together to plan where the money raised from all these events will go, using the School fundraising Plan-Goals that link to the School Development Plan as our focus!

Miss Findlay has had the children working extremely hard on their maths this past half-term and the children are all doing so well, here they are 'enjoying' another maths activity:
Head boy and girl led proceedings at our recent Harvest Festival and all the children performed beautifully but a special mention needs to go to our fabulous Reception children who belted out their tunes and showed off their fantastic work in a big scary hall full of parents - well done children, you have settled in so well.
If you weren't able to make it the service, take a look at the photos from the day:
Our Year 6 pupils took to the playground and then the Snitterfield streets to complete their Bikeability test. They took on board all the feedback and instruction and stepped up to the challenge - with all pupils receiving either a Level 1 or Level 2 by the end of the two days. Well done Year 6.
WEAR IT PINK DAY: FUNDRAISER THANKS
Wear it Pink Day
A big thank you for your support in 'wearing pink' in support of the 'Breast Cancer Now' charity. It was a really fun day and great to raise awareness and funds towards this very worthy cause - thank you.
We raised a great £104.80 :-).
Some more pink snaps can be found here:
"Wear it Pink" day fell on Class 1s Forest School day so the children wore pink under their warm layers. Here are a few pictures of them from the indoor part of the day!
Mrs Varley had her Magic Maths Machine out this week and the children have had great fun practising their addition sums.
Take a look at their hard work (and fun):
Class 2 gave parents and pupils a real treat last week, sharing their learning on 'Knights and Castles'. It was a really colourful and confident assembly in which all children spoke really well, especially the Year 1s who are still so weeny! Well done children you were fab!
If you weren't able to make it, take a look at the pictures here:
A couple of weeks ago, Class 2 were chefs for the morning and cooked up an autumnal feast making Apple & Blackberry Crumble - yummmmmy. Thank you for the blackberry donations, much appreciated!
Class 2 spent the last day of this half-term in the Forest School area building dens, climbing trees and scavenger hunting autumnal finds.
Check out the photos (they're a little hazy in places...ipad on last legs!):
Class 3 went Forest Schooling last week and had a lot of fun with blindfolds and autumnal tasks!
Check out the fun in these snaps:
On the last day before half term, children in class 3 got busy in the kitchen following a Stone Age recipe for stewed fruit and buns. They used lots of cooking skills, enjoyed making the Stone Age inspired dessert and talked about how people in the Stone Age would hunt and gather their own food.
Mrs Worland, Mrs Patrick and Hetty, mum to Benjamin in Y4 and Nicholas in Y2 who helped out - thank you Hetty - assisted the children as they prepped and baked!
Stage two will bring their acting skills to the fore as they put the play into action....we can't wait to see the end result!
Class 3 put on a really fun, lively and tuneful sharing assembly on last week and belted out some Abba classics which the mums, dads and staff all enjoyed (more than the children!). They also shared their learning on Roman Numerals, again via the medium of song!
If you weren't able to make it, here are are few photos from the afternoon:
Class 4 have been busy designing, drawing and building 'pop-up' mechanisms using basic materials such as paper clips, elastic bands and paper! We had rabbits, flowers, flamingoes, robots, comic characters..you name it we had it - the childrens imagination and design skills came to life!
Check out their wonderful creations:
YEAR 5 & 6 COMPUTER SCIENCE TRIP TO KES, STRATFORD: 27th NOV 2019
Last year we took Class 4 to a Computing Workshop at King Edward VI School, Stratford upon Avon and they absolutely adored it! They have offered us another workshop this year on the morning of WEDNESDAY the 27th of NOVEMBER.
To synch the trip to your phone-ipad CLICK HERE
It's a brilliant opportunity for our children to work with specialist teachers from Digital Schoolhouse. Digital Schoolhouse provides high quality computing workshops and believe that computing should be fun, creative and challenging. They offer a range of activities (see example below) and we are sure that the children will be able to build on their learning from curriculum IT lessons and come away with increased confidence and improved skills!
If you haven't yet given your consent on ParentPay please do so.
Class 4 have also enjoyed a mornings Forest Schooling out on the playing field and in the Forest School area; exploring and foraging in the early morning fog!
For those that missed the summary of the Parents Survey 2019 here they are:
