FROM THE EXECUTIVE HEADS OFFICE
Welcome to the Autumn Term 2019 - we hope everyone had a great summer and is ready for all the new challenges ahead this term. We've had a great start to the term and every class is already becoming immersed in their learning topics for the term.
We've welcome some new families to the school this month-both in Reception and across the school - we hope they will be very happy here as part of Team Snitterfield.
In assembly I have started the new term by discussing what ingredients we need for a successful year - the children came up with a super list including elements such as 'kindness','fun', 'respect' and 'helpfulness'.
Through this we developed children's statements for our brand new home and school agreement. You will receive two copies one of which is for you to keep, and one to sign and return to school. Thank you in advance for your continued support of the school.
We have lots of lovely things planned for this term including trips, sharing assemblies, Harvest and of course (dare we mention it...) Christmas! Lots to look forward to :-)
Mrs Plaskitt
Welcome to the school Reception 2019 intake, we are very proud of how well (and how quickly!) you have settled into school life.

SNITTERFIELD SCHOOL BUDDY SYSTEM
The Snitterfield School buddy system provides each new Reception child with a Year 6 'buddy' to help them settle in to school and keep an extra special eye out for them over the course of the year.
Each morning, over the past week, Y6 students have gone into school via the Reception class and have helped their Reception buddy get ready for their day. They are also with them at break and lunch times to ensure that they settle in to life at Snitterfield as quickly as possible.
Here are our very proud and responsible Y6 students alongside our very grown up and wonderful Reception children.
INTRODUCING HEAD GIRL & HEAD BOY
"I love being Head Girl however it is a lot of responsibility. I was amazed when I was chosen, I coudln't believe it. I am happy Sam was chosen as Head Boy I think he will be great at it, so well done Sam."
Faith, Y6
"When Mrs Plaskitt announced me as Head Boy in assembly, I was amazed. I'm elated to have the head boy badge pinned to my polo shirt, along with all of the responsibilities that come with it. I feel like it is a marvellous opportunity to have an active role within the school."
Sam Y6
A BIG BIG THANK YOU FROM SCHOOL
School would like to express their thanks to outgoing FOSS committee members:
CLAUDINE PEARSON * JAYNE GALE * FAYE KENNEDY
Who have, for a number of years, led and organised FOSS's efforts to raise funds for our school. As a charity, the constitution requires that certain roles are filled and in the absence of nominees, they have, year after year, stepped up and taken on the roles in an 'acting' capacity. However, with 'acting' the workload is certainly not an act, it's very real!!!
We would like to thank them for their huge contributions of time, committment, ideas and perserverance which they tirelessly given to improve the childrens' school learning and enrichment experiences. We would simply not have been able to fund school trips, pantomimes, library books, technical equipment, author and theme days...the list goes on, without their efforts so THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Faye is still on the committee but is no longer doing two roles :-)
FOSS AGM: INTRODUCING THE NEW COMMITTEE
The FOSS AGM was held on Monday 16th September, in previous years we have found it difficult to fill the core committee posts but this year we have a full committee!
The new Chair is Carol Ann Horne, who is mum to Sophie (Year 4), Ewan (Year 3) and Jacob (Year2). Carol Ann has helped at many events and previously was the Snitterfield Nursery Chair of fundraising. Welcome aboard!
The new Vice Chair is Susie Hughes, who is mum to Henry (Year 2). Sussie has been an active member of FOSS since Henry joined school and has helped at many events. Welcome aboard!
The Secretary is Faye Kenning, who is mum to Sebbie (Year 5) and Maddie (Year 2). Faye has not only been the secretary for the past few years but has also been acting Chair over the past year. Faye has put a lot of hardwork and effort into keeping the fundraising support high. Thank you for your continued support and welcome back aboard!
The Treasurer is Natalie Hill, who is mum to Noah (Year 2). Natalie is our existing treasurer and has done a great job at keeping the books in order over the last year aswell as supporting events and more. Thank You for your continued support and welcome back aboard.
As much as these as the core committee members, there are lots of other parents who make up the body of FOSS and without them we just wouldn’t raise the vital funds we need. Carol Ann will be arranging a FOSS welcome evening for all parents so watch the app for more details.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Claudine Pearson, who was our Vice Chair and has previously held most of the roles on the core committee at some stage! Claudine has helped raise lots of money over the years and we are very grateful for her hardwork, commitment and effort. We are sure she will continue to play an active role in FOSS.
As the oldest children in school, in addition to taking on their Buddy responsibilities, Year 6 are offered the chance to take on some other big school roles and responsibilites. This years roles are outlined below and pictures are in the below gallery- well done children we are proud of you stepping up to take these on.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE DURING TERM TIME
LEAVE OF ABSENCE DURING TERM TIME
UPDATED INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
The Supreme Court recently reached a decision in the case of Platt v Isle of Wight Council which has clarified the law on unauthorised leave, including holidays, during term time. The parents of children of compulsory school age are required to ensure that they attend school on a regular basis. The Supreme Court has made clear that attending school ‘regularly’ means that the children must attend school on every day that they are required to do so. As such, the parents of any child who is absent from school without authorisation for any length of time are likely to be considered as committing an offence under s444 of the Education Act 1996.
Head Teachers retain the ability to authorise leave in accordance with the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006. When considering such requests for a leave of absence, the school are obliged to act within the law. Head Teachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances relating to the application. If the leave is granted, head teachers are able to determine the number of school days a child can be absent for.
It is for the Head Teacher to decide what is ‘exceptional’ and it is at their discretion if the circumstances warrant the leave to be granted. The school can only consider Leave of Absence requests which are made by the ‘resident’ parent.
Each application for a leave of absence will be considered on a case by case basis and on its own merits.
Where applications for leave of absence are made in advance and refused, the child will be required to be in school on the dates set out in the application. If the child is absent during that period, it will be recorded as an unauthorised absence, which may result in legal action being taken against the parent(s), by way of a Fixed Penalty Notice.
Failure to make an application for leave in advance can also result in a Fixed Penalty Notice being issued to the parent(s).
All matters of unauthorised absence relating to a Leave of Absence will be referred to the Warwickshire Attendance Service, part of Warwickshire County Council.
It is important to note, Fixed Penalty Notices are issued to each parent of each absent child, (for example 2 children and 2 parents, means each parent will receive 2 invoices in the amount of £120 each, totalling £240 for both children, this is reduced to £60 per child if paid within 21 days).
Where a Fixed Penalty Notice is not paid within the required timeframe as set out on the notice, the matter will be referred to Warwickshire County Council’s Legal Services to consider instigating criminal proceedings under S444 Education Act 1996.
Fixed Penalty Notices are issued in accordance with Warwickshire County Council’s Code of Conduct for Penalty Notices.
Your child’s progress academically as well as socially is our shared priority

Welcome to our new students in Class One. We have been learning the new routines and how to sit carefully on the carpet and raise our hands when we answer questions.
The children have also taken part in lots of settling in activities and have excitedly taken home their first school reading book! Mums and Dads please remember to hear your child read daily and also practise the letters and sounds every day.
Apologies if I whizzed through the presentation on Wednesday evening, I was a little nervous. Please do ask me if there is anything that wasn't clear, or if you have any other questions.
And finally, thank you all for taking the time to complete the FOSS fundraising forms, it is much appreciated by school, FOSS and me and your support, in whatever form it takes, makes a huge difference to the childrens learning experiences.
Class 2 have settled down well and have embraced our new topic 'Castles and Knights'.
Best Wishes,
Miss Barnett
Class 2 have made the most of this lovely weather and today been out in the Forest School area looking for signs of Autumn. Take a look at what we got up to:
Welcome back to Class 3
Three weeks of the term have flown by. Year 3 have settled in extremely well and are rising to the challenges and new expectations of Class 3.
Year 4 have been excellent role models for Year 3 and are working hard on achiveing their pen licenses. We have been working on 'The Wolf's' story in English and will be writing persuasive letters and newspaper reports next week.
In History, we have started our Stone Age topic which the children are enjoying and a trip is planned in October based upon Stone Age skills and tools....so watch this space!
Best Wishes,
Mrs Worland
Welcome back class 4! We have had a superb start to the year and you have all shown how brilliant you can be.
We have a lot of work ahead learning about the Mayans and Mexico which will be mentioned a lot in our class book for the term "Middleworld".
Science will be exciting this term as we are looking at changing states of matter. We have already split ink into its component primary colours, tested various powders for solubility and demonstrated how to safely melt wax into a mould, and we are only on week three. There will be many more interesting experiments ahead so you can look forward to that on Wednesdays.
Best Wishes,
Mr Young
There will be a Spooky Halloween DISCO in the school hall on Thursday the 24th of October - a perfect event for all those little devils out there!
This year, we've decided to have two separate sessions to ensure that our littlies are not overly-spooked/whelmed by the bigger childrens costumes and dance moves!
So, Key Stage 1 (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) are invited to throw out their monstor moves from 5:30-6:30 and;
Key Stage 2 can bust their brains out (too much?!) from 6:30-7:30 (Year 3, 4, 5 and 6).
FOSS wil be coordinating the event and teachers will be present to help keep the spookiness at an acceptable level! Look out for more details to come.

SCHOOL OPEN MORNING (SEPT 2020 INTAKE)
We are once again opening our doors to welcome prospective parents to the school on the morning of Tuesday the 1st of October.
Our Year 6 students will be giving tours of the school and Mrs Plaskitt will be available to answer any questions parents may have.
Spread the word to any of your local friends who have children starting school next September, 2020.
"WEAR IT PINK DAY" OCTOBER 18TH: BREAST CANCER NOW CHARITY
School staff have decided to support "Wear it Pink" day on Friday October the 18th following Miss Phillips suggestion to support the 'Breast Cancer Now' charity. The day's aim is to raise awareness of breast cancer and to raise money for Breast Cancer Now. This event began in 2002 and takes place in October, as part of breast cancer awareness month.
The charity believes that if we all act now, by 2050, everyone who develops breast cancer will live. But they need awareness and funds to reach this aim.
School staff will be wearing something pink on October 18th and making a donation to the charity and we'd love for the children to also get involved too if they would like to and wear something pink for the day. It doesn't have to be an item of clothing it could be a wig, handkerchief, hat, glasses etc. so if the children would like to wear something pink that day we ask that they bring £1 in which will go towards our fundraising.
We will once again be supporting a Christmas Shoe Box appeal and have chosen to support the group that we worked with last year: Teams4U, which has no evangelical links whatsoever and is focused solely on providing a christmas box to those less fortunate than us.
The children will enjoy an assembly on Tuesday the 15th of October from a Teams4U representative who will explain how exactly the shoe boxes are gifted and the difference the gifts make to childrens lives.
If you and your child(ren) would like to prepare a shoe box, the Team4U team would be incredibly grateful - a list of their most needed items is below.
They ask for a shoe box with cross-age appeal to children regardless of whether they’re 3 or 14yrs old. I will have GIRLS and BOYS labels in school to put on the boxes, which I'm happy to do, and suggested items are below. They also welcome any notes that the children might want to pen to the recipient.
I will let you know when the deadline for handing in the shoe boxes is as soon as I know but it will most likely be early November to allow time for them to be distributed in good time.
Teams4U: Christmas Shoe Box Appeal
Many children today find themselves in desperate and hopeless situations. Through no fault of their own they often face impossible circumstances. We strive to give these children a second chance by helping them recognise and appreciate their own self worth. We operate around the world changing the lives of deprived children, and their communities, through supporting education and healthcare, providing aid and delivering shoeboxes.
Happy preparing,
Anna
