FROM THE EXECUTIVE HEADS OFFICE
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to the final newsletter for the year! A packed one for you all today to round off what has been a very busy year.
Summer term has been so busy across the school - with sports events, Arts Week, and trips out. So much to celebrate and look forward to after the summer break. Next year we are introducing a programme of sporting events for the federation schools which will build on recent netball matches and a rounders tournament which took place last week. It was wonderful to see great sportmanship and teamwork at each event.
Last week we had our Open Afternoon to share our work from Arts Week. Thank you to everyone who came along, and also to anyone that came along to help out on Arts Week itself. It was a real opportunity to be able to use the tidied up and revamped pond area - we have made some fantastic sculptures and models and a collaborative weaving project has been started - there's still room for anyone else who'd like to contribute - please pop along to Class 1 at the end of school this week to do your bit. In the library there is a Monet installation by Class 2, with goldfish, dragonflies and lily pads. Class 3 and 4 made some sculptures of pond insects - Class 3 in clay and Class 4 giant models. Pop in and have a look if you weren't able to come along last Wednesday.
A massive thank you to everyone who has been able to come into school this year to help out - hearing readers, helping with Art, transporting children to events, organising FOSS events and tidying the school grounds. I won't try to name everyone as I'll probably forgot someone - but you know who you are!
Thank you as ever for all your support across the year, it is very much appreciated by all of us. Finally, on behalf of all staff and Governors, it only remains for me to wish all our families a sunny, happy and healthy summer break. I hope you are able to make lots of lovely memories and come back to school on Tuesday 3rd September all refreshed and ready for the new school year.
Best wishes!
THANK YOU HILARY FOR ALL THAT YOU DO
Hilary is absolutely brilliant at getting the children involved in events and projects and the school is incredibly grateful to her for giving up so much time to provide these extra experiences for our children; gardening club, recycling schemes, solar panels, display boards, pond area, eco-group....the list goes on (and on!). She works tirelessly, always smiling, and provides so many wonderful opportunities for our children as a volunteer.
THANK YOU TO JAYNE LUCAS, MUM TO MOLLY, OSCAR & PIP
Jayne is our resident art consultant who, like Hilary, offers her time and talents to help the children with arts-based projects. She is in school most days, is always willing to help with amazing creative projects across the school and more often than not comes up with the ideas that again provide the children with creative experiences that school doesn't have the bandwidth to provide: weaving, clay modelling, clay portraits, mosaics...the list is endless.
THANK YOU TO FRIENDS OF SNITTERFIELD SCHOOL
Faye Kenning, Claudine Pearson, Natalie Hill, Jo Holt, Jo Hudson-Green, Helen & Wayne Berry, Johanna Comer, Jane Gayle, Carol-Ann Horne, Andrea Wixey, Fiona O' Brien, Suzie Hughes, Isobel McLaughlin, Ed & Hetty Tyler, ....I have no doubt that I have missed off many other parents who offer helping hands and I apologise if your name isn't listed - end of term brain fudge! We appreciate you all and the help you provide and the funds you generate for our children.
Special shout out to Faye, Claudine and Natalie for fulfilling the constitutional roles that running a charity entails and for all their efforts over the years to coordinate proceedings, raising valuable funds for the children.
THANK YOU TO OUR PARENT READERS
Hetty Read, Fiona O'Brien, Jo Holt, Isobel McLauchlin, Sue Yendell, Rachel Burdus-Cook and many more who offer their time to support the childrens reading.
THANK YOU TO ALISTER & BECCY, MUM & DAD TO CALLIE & ELLIOT
Thank you for the eggs that became cute furry chicks who came to live in Class 1 for awhile this term- they were the perfect guests!
THANK YOU TO SHARON AUST, MUM TO AIDAN
For all your help and time spent in organising this years 'leaver hoodies', the Year 6 leavers gift to school and the fundraiser cake/ice-pop sales.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Class 4 treated us all to an absolutely impeccable performance of Olivia last week; every single child performed well and gave it their all.
We were treated to wonderful 'in character' accents, comedic timing, solo singing, amazing stage props and perfectly selected costumes for each character - so much thought and work went in to the entire production and it paid off in bounds; The children were amazingly confident - if a little hot wrapped in woollen shawls, scarfs etc. WELL DONE CHILDREN WE ARE REALLY PROUD OF YOU. CHECK OUT THE PHOTOS HERE:
And a huge thank you to Miss Phillips for coordinating the play and ensuring its success, to Miss Hughes-Jones for wardrobe design and being our loft expert extraordinaire and Mrs Varley for all her artistic talents in producing so many beautiful stage design elements and props.
Lots of lovely outdoor learning has taken place this past month in our newly 'spruced up' pond area. Hilary and parent volunteers helped school with our children-adult water ratios and each class spent time pond dipping, sketching and exploring the pond wildlife that is right on our doorstep.
The children took inspiration from their pond time and used what they'd seen and learnt to get creative during our 'nature' themed Arts week.
They also presented school with a leaving gift - some shiny new playground games - which they had bought with their recent cake sale/ice-pop fundraising sales. THANK YOU.
Their Reception Buddies had painted portraits and made good luck cards for each leaver and many tears were shed (including staff!).
We will miss you all but wish you lots of luck in your exciting new adventure.

Our names are Ed and Esme and we are part of Snitterfield School Council. We decided to raise money for Stratford Foodbank because so many people in and around Stratford need their help. We were lucky enough to visit Stratford Foodbank to see all the hard work that they do. The next day School Council did an assembly to tell everyone about their visit. Did you know that only volunteers give up their time to work at the Stratford Foodbank? It is a charity so they don’t get paid.
School Council organised a non-uniform day and we also did a cake sale. Class 2 made cakes for the sale and they designed posters to ask people to donate food to Stratford Foodbank too. Lots of children made cakes at home too.
School Council are very proud of all Snitterfield children because we raised over £220 for the Stratford Foodbank. Thank you everyone!
Warwickshire Music lessons for Key Stage 2 children who have opted to learn or continue with the guitar, clarinet, flute and oboe will start the second week back at school, week commencing the 9th of September.
Guitar lessons will take place each Monday afternoon and Clarinet, Flute and Oboe every Tuesday morning.
For those of you that are new to music lessons, please visit the Warwickshire Music website HIRE INSTRUMENT ONLINE FORM to order your childs 'free for the first year rental' instrument. Do it before or during the summer so that your child will receive the instrument in time for the start of lessons. The instruments get sent to school direct from WCC Music. Each term I will put the cost of the lessons onto ParentPay.
The break down of number of lessons per term is as follows and below you can see the weeks in which the lessons will be taught (tiny week numbers alongside each week of each term):
Autum Term 13 weeks
Spring Term 12 weeks
SummerTerm 9 weeks
WELCOMING OUR NEW RECEPTION CLASS SEPT 2019!!
We were so excited to welcome our new September 2019 Reception class for a few 'Stay & Play' sessions this past month and couldn't wait to show you a little flavour of some of the children settling in to Class 1. It won't be long before the initial shyness disappears and they will feel fully-fledged members of the Snitterfield School family.
A selection of snaps showing the children learning about maths and weights and some wonderful role play.
Class 1 have spent every Friday morning up in the Forest School area this year and have been out there rain, shine or even snow! This term, it's been wonderful for them to be able to wear a few less layers and enjoy making camp fires and toasting marshmallows to end the year. Take a look at the lovely photos in the gallery below.
The Snitterfield School buddy system provides each new Reception child with a Year 6 'buddy' to help them settle in to school and keep an extra special eye out for them over the course of the year. They really do build beautiful relationships and this morning's Year 6 Leavers Assembly confirmed just that. Emotions were high when each Reception pupil said a few words about their Year 6 buddy and presented them with a 'Good Luck' card and a portrait.
Last week they enjoyed one last special activity together here on the school playing field when the parachute came out!
6 FINALISTS were chosen to represent Snitterfield school: Anjali, Benjamin, Oscar, Emilia, Esme and Ollie at the recent John Turner Rubbish Friends awards ceremony on a hot, balmy night in Stratford! Well done children, your letters on waste reduction and recycling were fantastic.
The competition has been set up in memory of John Turner, who started Rubbish Friends. The judges, who included John's family, Jo Tidman from the BBC, Donna Hook from Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, Bethan Pritchard from NFU Mutual, Angela LLoyd from Stratford District Council and Touch FM, chose winners.
This year, Arts week topic was 'Nature' and the children have all enjoyed some fantastic sessions in the pond area; pond dipping, exploring and sketching as well as some classroom/playground arts activities creating insects of all shapes and sizes.
Thank you to everyone who was able to come into school and help with the schools Arts Week. We all had a lot of fun and learnt a great deal from using the Pond Area - the artwork produced was fantastic and we are all very proud of the children and staff. To be able to make use of our natural environment was wonderful and let’s hope that it has encouraged everyone to look at the nature around them and enjoy our wonderful surroundings, and especially those that are available for us on our doorsteps!
CLASS 1
Weaving was the order of the day for Class 1 as well as using willow to make beautiful crowns and taking inspiration from their time at the pond to paint some beautiful butterflies.
CLASS 2
Under the sea art pictures, sketching outdoors and many other fantastic arts related activities. If you haven't popped in to see Class 2s clay portraits that are mounted and displayed beautifully (thank you Jayne!) they are in the hall - do come and take a look!
CLASS 3
Learned to mix colours making different shades of green. We studied the colour wheel in order to better understand colour mixing which helped us paint beautifully detailed clay models. We explored and gathered leaves from the Forest School area which were used to make sketches and water colours.
CLASS 4
Spent time creating some mega insects from masking tape and old newspaer - they are really life-like, rather large, and very impressively stuck to the wall! You must pop into see them in Class 4 - they look amazing.
Class 4 have been cooking up a storm this week making yummy cup cakes to enjoy at their party.
Who knew Mr Young was such a dab hand in the kitchen ;-0
A team of Snitterfield Y3, 4, 5 and 6 pupils recently attended the Area Athletics competition and competed in a number of events: sprints, relays, hurler, 600m etc.
They performed really well in scorching heat so well in fact that a some extra speedy and athletic pupils qualified for the Southern Area finals...so a HUGE WELL DONE to Sophie (Y3), Adam (Y4), Max (Y4), Harvey (Y4), Tobey (Y6), Star (Y6) and Callie (Y6) who did the school proud and performed fantastically at the finals.
We can't wait to see more athletic highlights next year!
FOSS USBORNE SPONSORED READ: HUGE SUCCESS
The children who took part in the Usborne sponsored read/listen all received certificates for taking part during assembly this week. We were amazed that they managed to raise over £700.
Evie Curson was announced as the winner; she raised a staggering £200 in sponsorship and received a special prize from Usborne for all her hard work. Well done Evie!"
In case you missed the email, school recently shared a fundraising plan at an 'open to all' meeting, here's the plan for what we'd like to secure funding for along with details of a new 'Small Grants' group. Thank you for your offers of help, it's much appreciated!

Save the dates now for Parents Meetings, Nativity Performances, Welcome Meetings etc. and take a look at the Clubs planned for next term.
Year 4 and Year 5 girls recently represented Snitterfield in a cross-federation netball match against Wilmcote Primary held at Snitterfield. The sun shone, the girls had fun and they learnt (very quickly!) how to play with a 5-man team instead of a 7. At first, it was a litle tricky working out where they were allowed to go and not, but they soon grapsed the new rules and improved quarter on quarter. By the last quarter they were playing some amazing netball- intercepting, swift centre pass actions and moving the ball down to the shooting circle with
a few well thought through passes- well done girls!
After the monsoons put stop to our June forest school plans we were thankful that this week the children could enjoy the planned session. They enjoyed building fires, tying knots and even toasted marshmallows.
Year 6 went away on the 5th July for 2 nights to Manor Adventure in Shropshire with the other federation schools. We all had a brilliant time!
The children participated in a number of different activities over the weekend such as climbing, rifle shooting, kayaking, archery, abseiling and obstacle course.
It was great to see them enjoying a different set of activities away from school - we discovered some children are brilliant at archery, climbing and abseiling - they all got along well, ate really well and even had 2 good sleeps...we even had to physically shake a couple of them awake!
Highlights included: Harry getting soaked at the end of the obstacle course, Mrs P discovering Chloe's stash of snacks, Aidan's super fast climb (beaten by Mr Y though!) , Molly and Tobey being amazing at archery, Conor 'accidently' falling in the lake, many children challenging themselves at things they hadn't tried before and just so many laughs across the weekend! They did us all proud.
Some of our Year 3 students, who have been working really hard on their handwriting, were given their pen licenses the other week.
FROM THE COMMUNITY: RURAL CINEMA
Please come and join us at the rural cinema in Snitterfield Village Hall on Sunday July 21st when we shall be screening ‘Fisherman’s Friends’ (12A) at 7pm.
In Fisherman’s Friends, a fast-living, cynical London music executive (Danny Mays) heads to a remote Cornish village on a stag weekend where he's pranked by his boss (Noel Clarke) into trying to sign a group of shanty singing fishermen (led by James Purefoy). He becomes the ultimate 'fish out of water' as he struggles to gain the respect or enthusiasm of the unlikely boy band who value friendship and community over fame and fortune.
Tickets available on the door and priced at £3 for Children under 12, £4 for Adults;
£10 for a family of 4. Refreshments available.
If you would like to join the cinema email group and influence the choice of films we screen, please contact Hilary & Ole Schmidt-Hansen
Email: [email protected]

Class 3 finally got to enjoy their 'fire' Forest School session last and had a great day out in the fresh air; They learnt how to use flint and steel to start a fire and celebrated their success by roasting marshmallows. Additionally, Class 3 studied survival skills in the form of knot tying where they learnt how to create a reaf and figure of eight knot - it was a blast!
If any parent or grandparent fancies a project, and is a little bit handy, our beautiful school notice boar, which was made for us quite a few years ago now by a very kind grandparent, is now looking a little bvery tired and ready for a make over.
There are three Bikeability levels, each designed to improve cycling skills, no matter what is known already. Levels 1, 2 and 3 take trainees from the basics of balance and control, all the way to planning and making an independent journey on busier roads.
BIKEABILITY is booked for our new YEAR 6 on Wednesday the 2nd and Wednesday 9th of October - All Year 6 children are encouraged to take part.
Trainers from BikeRight deliver all cycle training, including Bikeability to schools, on behalf of Warwickshire County Council. For more information CLICK HERE.
SCHOOL COUNCIL: STRATFORD FOOD BANK
With your generosity, School Council has raised a massive £220 for Stratford Food Bank who are incredibly grateful for the schools support.
Last Wednesday, Annette, an ex teacher and now volunteer for the Food Bank charity, along with Ed and Esme, spoke to the whole school about the work the Bank does and how important their work is.
The amount of organisation and thought that the volunteers put into the packs that are handed out during set opening times is immense. There are different packs depending on the person or family's circumstances: packs for those people who are living on the streets and do not have access to a cooker, let alone a can opener, and packs for those that can boil water but again do not have the means to bake anything.
The foodbank relies on the the community's suport to ensure they can continue to stop people going hungry and support people in crisis. Don't forget Snitterfield store and all our local supermarkets offer collection points for any cleaning-hygeinic products or food donations.
Hilary worked with Eco Group and Class 2 to produce a presentation which was displayed at Stratford Methodist Church during Climate Action Day on the 22nd June.
In case you couldn't get along, here is their wonderfully informative display, explaining what we can do to limit climate change. Hilary is brilliant at getting the children involved in such events and the school is incredibly grateful to her for giving up so much time to provide these extra experiences for our children.
Class 4 have been making some super sized insects from paper machier and clay - do go and see them in Class 4 if you haven't already taken a look.
As ever, huge thanks to our resident parent arts coordinator Mrs Lucas, mum to Molly, Oscar and Pip, for all her help and guidance.
We have had lots of fun in garden club this year, planting seeds, growing fruit & vegetables and finding all sorts of lovely mini beasts.
We have recently been enjoying our harvest of strawberries, peas and broad beans and last week Class 2 dug up the potatoes they had planted earlier in the year & sold them to raise funds towards the school toilet twinning charity.
We are looking forward to our crops of french & runner beans when we come back from the summer together with tomatoes, courgettes and brassicas. Garden
Club meet on Tuesday lunchtime and we could really do with some more help if any parents or grandparents would like to join us - you don’t have to be an amazing gardener, but like to encourage the children to learn outside. The more help we have the more we can achieve and it would also mean that we can take the children into the pond area more often which they all really love to do.
Hilary & Bob
As you know, Eco Group have been raising funds to twin our school toilets and due to your help we now have enough funds to twin 2 toilets.
Toilet Twinning is a brilliant way to learn about lives of others where they do not have the luxury of clean water hygiene, and education that we all take for granted.
Our ‘toilet’ was on display at Stratford’s Climate Change Day in June together with a display of the work that Eco group have achieved over he past few years.
It was lovely to see Tommy there as well as Callie & Elliot, Erin & Ed. Thank you for your support.
Eco Group have also been looking into our natural environment surrounding the school and will hopefully continue this into the autumn with a ‘nature table’ or display.
We have also written Theresa May about plastic in our oceans and of course created our wonderful toad and frog crossing signs for The Green and invited Warwickshire Amphibian and Reptile Team (WART) into school talk to us about helping our wildlife and especially the frogs and toads in our gardens and local areas.
We are continually encouraging everyone to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible and would like to encourage you all to use our printer cartridge recycling scheme and clothes bank at school.
Have a fun summer and thanks for your support with our fundraising.
Chloe, Faith, Skye, Anna, Ewan, Pip, Tommy & Hilary
CLASS 2: SEA LIFE & LEGO LAND DISCOVERY TRIP
Class 2 enjoyed a fantastic trip to the SeaLife and Lego Discover Centre last week to finish off their topcis on Oceans.
They were so excited to see creatures that they had learnt about this term and enjoyed the day a lot!
Lovely quote from Max, Year 1: "I saw everything that I'd learnt about in class in real life!"
FOSS Annual General Meeting
The FOSS AGM is taking place on Monday 16th September 2019 at School at 7PM and we’d love for you to come along!
Not sure what the AGM is all about? Here’s a few Q&A’s which might help:
What is the purpose of an AGM?
As a registered charity, FOSS is required to hold an Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elect a new committee for the coming year. It is an opportunity for members to find out about the group, ask questions about funds raised and where they have been spent.
Typically, there is a report made by the treasurer on the funds raised the previous year, and how these have been spent. The chair will highlight successes, thank those who have been involved, and indicate what is planned for the coming year. The existing committee stands down and members elect a new committee.
When & how should an AGM be held?
As the name suggests, these meetings are held once a year, and the timing of this is mainly determined by the date the last meeting took place.
Our AGMs tend to fall at the beginning of the school year, where we have the opportunity to review the previous year and make plans for the next.
We are required to advertise the AGM to all members, and to seek nominations in advance of the meeting for election to the committee. Please chat to one of the existing committee members or return the reply slip attached!
What will be discussed?
Typically, the agenda will include:
- Welcome & apologies
- Chairperson’s report
- Treasurer’s report
- Elections of both committee and ordinary members
- Any other business.
How many committee members are required?
Three are required as a minimum for the group to continue to run: A chairperson (or vice chair), a treasurer, and a secretary. Other members can be elected if necessary.
How long will the meeting take?
We appreciate that no-one wants to sit at school late into the evening! We will do our very best to keep the meeting as brief as possible, but would estimate that it will take around an hour.
We hope to see you there!
Many thanks from FOSS
Year 4 went across to Wilmcote a couple of weeks ago to take part in the first ever Year 4 Maths Workshop. All Year 4s from the federation schools were there are took part in some activities based around The Rabbit Problem by Emily Gravatt. This tells the story of a pair of rabbits living in a field and how their family expands over the course of one year! The numbers are all based on the Fibonacci sequence so there was lots of work looking at sequences and patterns of numbers.
The session was organised by our Maths leader Mr Young with the Maths leaders from Wilmcote and Loxley. It was great to see the children working with children from the other schools, and there was an impressive amount of discussion around numbers - lots of explanation and reasoning around their own ideas. Excellent work Year 4!
