FROM THE EXECUTIVE HEADS OFFICE
Hello and Welcome to our final Newsletter of this term,
A big Thank You to everyone who joined us at church on Wednesday for our Easter service, it was lovely to see so many parents, family and friends in attendance. I know you will agree that the children performed really well - they sang and read so confidently and clearly, making us all so proud of them. It certainly was an uplifting reminder of the Christian Easter story, as well as a celebration of springtime and Easter celebrations around the world.
Hopefully over the coming weeks we'll start to experience some warmer weather as Spring really takes hold. I've really noticed that the school site could do with a bit of a tidy up in preparation for the children spending more time out of doors. So Hilary Schmidt Hansen and I came up with the idea of holding a 'Spruce up the School for Spring' day to tidy the pond area as well as planting and general tidying. We'd love some helpers to do this so if you have a spare hour (or two) on the afternoon of Saturday May 11th please let Mrs Carless know that you're able to come along so we can guage how much cake to prepare and we'll supply you with tea and cake to keep you going!
Wishing everyone a restful and sunny Easter!

Thank you to everyone who supported Eco-Groups fundraiser last Friday. We have now raised £90 in total and nearly reached our target of £120 to be able to buy two toilets...we have just £30 to go and will do one more fundraiser next term.
And well done to Meisha who won the 'Where did Daisy do it?' competition!
Take a look at the wonderful toilet that Eco-Group made in preparation for the 'Spend a Penny' playground game last week and how busy the Eco-Groupers were at the end of the day!
SPRUCE UP THE SCHOOL FOR SPRING DAY: SATURDAY MAY 11th (AFTERNOON)
As Mrs Plaskitt mentioned, next term, we would like to tidy up a few areas of the school grounds to make it more attractive for the children and propose to have a ‘Spruce up the School for Spring’ afternoon on Saturday May 11th to get a few jobs done.
If you are able to help please let Mrs Carless know so that can judge how much cake will be needed for refreshments!
Thank you for your help and support, we really appreciate it.
STRATFORD LITERARY FESTIVAL: AUTHOR VISITS
Thank you to FOSS for paying for two author visits during Stratford Literary Festival last week. The children enjoyed both author visits so much!
Lots of books were purchased and we had a lot of children eager to ask questions and actively take part in both sessions. Both authors commented on how polite and engaged all the children were - well done Class 3 and 4.
Class 3 and 4 had a visit from David Solomon and Class 1 and 2 a visit from Michelle Robinson/

Class 1 put on an amazing performance to Parents and Grandparents during their recent Sharing Assembly. One of their topics for the term has been 'People who help us' which they brought to life beautifully; they each took on a very important role to help explain who these people are, what they do, and just how important they are for our health, wellbeing and safety.
Class 1 have enjoyed a great few Friday mornings up at the Forest School - and we even had sunshine last week.
They built rafts and checked their durability using two fresh eggs (no eggs were harmed in the proces!):
They have created indvidual 'Coat of Arm's' choosing items that represent something about themselves:
They have worked with wood; looking at bark rubbing and laying fires:
CLASS 1: LEARNING THROUGH PLAY
Class 1 have had a very busy few weeks learning Learning through Play; a lot of maths work using farm yard animals to help visualise their addition sums, some clock work and counting towers using lego bricks. Look at all their work - feel tired just looking at it.
FROM GARDENING CLUB: IT'S POTATO PLANTING SEASON!
This week in Gardening club, and also with the help of the Year 1's, we have been planting our seed potatoes which are kindly provided by the Grow Your Own Potatoes team at Stoneleigh who have ben running this scheme through schools around the country since 2005.
Now, we need to nurture our seed potatoes and in a few months time hope to dig up a good harvest for us all to enjoy.
It’s quite surprising how many of the year 1 children said they didn’t like potatoes but really love chips, so now’s the time to teach them all about where our food comes from!!
GARDENING CLUB: SPRING PLANTING
broad bean seeds, sweet peas, honey bear squash, sunflowers, tomatoes and chilli, peppers and have more planned for next term. Let’s hope that they all grow and we can enjoy eating our produce later in the year.
Garden club usually takes place on a Tuesday lunchtime for just an hour. There are two of us who volunteer to run the club and we would love to have some more help from any parents/grandparents/carers who have a spare hour.
You don’t have to be an amazing gardener, just enthusiastic about helping the children to enjoy nature. If you are only available once in a while to get involved that would be great as it would mean that we can then take small groups of children into the pond area which they all really love doing.
If you’d like to know a bit more about volunteering please either speak to Mrs Carless in the school office or Hilary Schmidt-Hansen- Tel: 01789 731246 or email: [email protected]
CLASS 2: COMPTON VERNEY SELF-PORTRAITS
Following their recent 'Art' trip to Compton Verney, Class 2 have been finishing up their 3D self-portraits with help, as ever, from our resident Artist, Jayne (mum to Pip, Oscar and Molly)- thank you! The children have painted them and Jayne has mounted them - and we think they look AMAZING!! We're figuring out where best to display them so everyone can get a glimpse of them before the children take them home....
Take a look at the artists in work:
CLASS 2: FOREST SCHOOL THE TWITS!
Class 2 took advantage of the sun to extend their learning outside this Thursday. They've been studying 'The Twits' by David Walliams and decided to cook Mr Twit a delightful 'soup' using spaghetti as worms, fairy liquid, water, leaves, mud etc. Darnell even added a Newt! Take a look at their yummy creations:
Class 2 were very lucky to be taken over the road to meet a litter of new puppies earlier this week. Take a look at the childrens faces cuddling the gorgeous bundles of fluff:
CLASS 2: EASTER GARDEN CREATIONS & EGG HUNT!
Following their yummy meal preparation for Mr Twit the children made beautiful Easter Gardens for their bunnies and searched for Easter Eggs around the playing field.
JOHN TURNER COMPETITION: LAUNCHED TODAY!
If you're looking for an Easter Break activity read on! Mrs Plaskitt spoke to the whole school today about this competition and Mrs Carless has sent home details with your children today.
Snitterfield School are pleased to be taking part in a Rubbish Friends competition in memory of John Turner, who started Rubbish Friends -the children are bringing details of the competition home with them today.
It is an exciting competition for all young people in the Stratford area aged between 4 and 18 years old. This year's competition is the idea of John's children, Jake and Emily. There are 3 age categories: Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 and Senior School and College and the topics to choose from are:
- Recycling
- Caring for our wildlife
- Protecting our oceans
- Plastic pollution
- Reducing litter
The closing date for receipt of entries into school is the 24th May.
Snitterfield school will then choose 6 pieces of work to go through, as finalists, to the Awards Ceremony which will be held at Thomas Jolyffe School on Saturday, 29th June between 6.00 and 8.00 pm. Among those invited will be the finalists' friends and families.
The judges, who include John's family, Jo Tidman from the BBC, Donna Hook from Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, Bethan Pritchard from NFU Mutual, Angela LLoyd from Stratford District Council and Touch FM, will choose a winner from each category. The winners will receive an engraved cup to keep, a litter picker and and annual magazine subscription. There will also be a 'winners' winner' who will also receive a large trophy, to be returned at the end of the year, and a family membership to Warwickshire Wildlife Trust. BBC Midlands Today will be filming the Award Ceremony.
The competition is generously sponsored and supported by several organisations, including: NFU Mutual, Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, BBC Midlands Today, Stratford College, BBC Coventry and Warwickshire Radio, Stratford Herald, Thomas Jolyffe School, Tiddington and Alveston School
David, coach from Snitterfield Tennis Club, has spent the past couple of weeks coming into school and giving children in Class 2 and Class 3 and 4 a tennis taster session.
If you are interested in some coaching sessions, the club offers very affordable coaching pricing and flexibiliy in terms of sessions.
Have you all seen our wonderful amphibian warning signs along The Green? If not, please go and have a look. The signs are hopefully encouraging people to take care when they drive along The Green as there is known crossing point for frogs and toads to reach a large breeding pond and then return the same way to get back to the brook.
We have been learning all about it in Eco Group and had an interesting visit from Loiuse & Masha from the Warwickshire Amphibian and Reptile Group (WART) a couple of weeks ago. If you want to know more then please ask your class eco group representative or visit the WART stand at the village fete on June 9th.
Next term Eco group have a few things planned and have also been asked to have a display about our Eco Schools projects at the Stratford Climate Action Day on June 22nd at Stratford Methodist Church.
Please put it in your diaries and come along to see what it’s all about - hopefully we shall have some more information nearer the date.
Class 3 embraced the Easter celebration and made some delicious Easter nests yesterday..... nom nom. Thank you Aaron for being the super star photographer!
To end their topic on Spain, Class 3 will have a fun-filled morning of activities related to Spain on their first day back to school after the Easter break. We will be cooking and tasting food from Spain, learning Spanish songs, drawing self-portraits in the style of Pablo Picasso and having a go at Flamenco dancing!
It would be great if the children all came dressed up to be part of the fun. They can wear something red or orange (to symbolise the Spanish flag); wear a white T-shirt and trousers or leggings with a red scarf (to symbolise the running of the bulls); or wear a Spanish football kit or any other red/reddish football kit.

YEAR 6: SAT'S HOMEWORK HELP PACKS
Miss Phillips has put together a ‘SATS Homework Help’ pack which will be sent home with each Y6 child today. A few of you have requested sample papers from previous years so it includes past papers as well as revision booklets to help them consolidate their learning and give you a feel for the type of papers that have been set in the past.
Please do as much as you can with them over the break and ensure that you send it back to school with them on their first day back after the Easter break.
