FROM THE EXECUTIVE HEADS OFFICE
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to our latest Newsletter with much to report as usual!
The Spring Term is bringing with it many positive changes in line with our school improvement plans and we are strengthening our support staff. Miss Phillips (currently Class 1 TA) is moving up the school to support Class 4 in the mornings with their English and Maths learning. In the afternoons she will be proving SEN support across the school on a 1:1 or small group basis. Also in Class 4 is Miss Jones who is supporting an individual pupil. Replacing Miss Phillips in Class 1 will be Mrs Varley; Mrs Varley is an experienced TA currently working at a school in Birmingham. We are pleased to be able to add additional capacity to our very capable support team.
We also have a number of new children joining us this term – new families to the village, others from further afield who want to take advantage of our flexi schooling option, and others simply who have heard good things about the school! No doubt the recent OFSTED report has helped in that respect. In total we will have 6 new children, taking us to 94% capacity, with only 6 spaces available in year groups across the school.
We’ve been working hard towards the ‘Next steps’ identified in the OFSTED Report. Our Teacher Day in January focussed on SEND support and provision. Mrs Worland and Mrs Barrick (Head of School at Loxley) delivered this training to federation staff, formalising reporting processes and sharing good practice. In addition staff across the federation have attended 4 hours of Safeguarding training this half term which was delivered by the Warwickshire Children’s Safeguarding Manager. We had already started work on developing our long term curriculum for the school before OFSTED arrived, and we have continued this term by working alongside Wilmcote School who are involved in a similar exercise. We have now started to map out skills progression across the school in the various subjects. With regard to Writing, the English Subject Leaders at each school are in the process of collecting samples from each school in each year group to create a portfolio of agreed standards for each term. This will ensure that we have a common framework on which to base our judgments.
And of course, the children have been very busy too! Please see the various lovely things that teachers have been delivering so far this term. Have a restful and healthy half term.
Mrs Plaskitt
SCHOOL COUNCIL LOGO WINNER (S) ANNOUNCED!
Thank you for all the wonderful entries we received for our 'Design a School Council logo' competion, 45 children entered - so approximately half the school - which was just great, BUT, it made the decision extremely hard for the School Council to make!
So School Council met and voted for one overall winner along with runner up designs for each Year group. See the assembly announcing the winning entries in this gallery;
Our OVERALL WINNER IS ISLA FROM YEAR 4 - WELL DONE ISLA!!! We loved the inclusiveness, hands working to build a better world and school and the whole thing just captured our school creed brilliantly.
The runner up winners by Year Group, who did so well and were so close to the winning design, are.... Reception: Christopher; Year 1: Jasper; Year 2: Evie; Year 3: Laurie and Max (the group couldn't decide!), Year 5: George, Year 6: Lana. Their designs will be uploaded to the school website, and will be displayed on a board in the ICT area, and are below for you all to see (in ascending class order!).
CLASS 1 & 2: CHINESE NEW YEAR DAY WORKSHOP
Last week, Class 1 and Class 2 enjoyed a Chinese New Year Day workshop which culminated in a performance to parents. Look at all the fun and learning in this fab photo selection:
CLASS 4: FOREST SCHOOL LEARNING
Class 4 enjoyed a mornings Forest School-ing on a beautiful February morning - the weather was kind for once! Team working and practical skills were the focus, the children had a fantastic time.
After half term we are pleased to be able to tell you that we will be running a new 'Money' programme in class 4 on Friday afternoons, led by Jake's Mum Jenny Swift. The sessions will fit in with the PHSE and Citizenship curriculum. They will be fun and interactive; aimed at helping our children understand the value of money and how we need to manage it, as well as the need for budgeting.
In order to get the most out of the sessions it would be great if any parents are able to help out.
The sessions will last an hour across 6 weeks (you don't have to come to all of them!) starting straight after lunch (1.15pm). Please let Jenny Swift or Mrs Carless know if you can support - you would need a police check (DBS) but this is quick and easy if you haven't got one already - so don't let this put you off!
CLASS 2: CHINESE NEW YEAR SHARING ASSEMBLY
Parents were invited to come and watch Class 2's Sharing Assembly this week and were treated to a wonderful performance from Year 1 and Year 2; we heard numbers spoken loud and clear in Mandarin Chinese, watched a dramatic Chinese fable unfold, heard how our school day compares to that of a Chinese pupil and saw wonderful art that the children had produced.
World Book Day 7thMarch 2019
We are celebrating World Book Day at Snitterfield by doing something different this year. Each class will have a book focus and working on fun activities based on the book.
Class 1 will study the book Elmer the Elephant.
Miss Findlay would like the children to dress up in bright colours.
Class 2 will study the Peter Rabbit story.
Miss Barnett would like the children to dress up as characters based on the book. They could just have rabbit ears or a pom-pom tail or even dress up as the farmer Mr McGregor and his wife.
Class 3 will study the book The Bear and The Piano.
Mrs Worland would like the children to dress up in party clothes as if we are going to the bear’s concert.
Class 4 will study the book Tuesday.
Mr Young would like the children to wear something green.
We thought we’d give you plenty of notice to prepare for our special day.
Many Thanks,
Mrs Worland
English Leader
Alongside School Council who are raising funds for Comic Relief next Friday afternoon, Eco-Group are also busy planning a couple of fun, loose change, fundraiser games to run in the playground after school next Friday to raise funds for Toilet Twinning Charity.
We are hoping to have a game where you toss your loose change into a toilet seat to raise money and there’s also a Chicken Poo Bingo!! So if you have any small change and fancy spending a penny to buy a loo we'd much appreciate it!
Many thanks,
Eco-Group
CLASS 2: A TASTE OF THE ORIENT
Continuing their 'China' topic work, Class 2 teachers, Miss Barnett and Mrs Brettell, have been cooking up a Chinese storm today and provided the children with some yummy Chinese food to sample. Well done to all the children for trying and especially to those children who had never tried it before and handed back empty plates!
